How to Apply The Bohemian King’s Beard Dye

Our plant-based beard dyes can be applied on their own or with our optional Natural Beard Dye Colour Base. Mix each product using 1 part powder : 3 parts WARM water.

Before you begin: Your beard should be at least 1 cm long. Complete a patch test 48 hours before every application. Do not apply to broken, inflamed or irritated skin. Always follow the instructions supplied with your product.

Our video demonstrates the two-stage application method. The Colour Base is optional and is not required for every beard colouring application.

Choose Your Application Method

Option 1 — Standard Application

Apply your chosen beard dye directly, following the instructions below. No Colour Base is required.

Option 2 — With Colour Base

We particularly recommend considering our Colour Base for coarse, resistant or predominantly grey or white beard hair.

Every beard dye pack includes a complimentary 20g Colour Base. No separate purchase is necessary.

Mix With WARM Water

Always prepare your beard dye and Colour Base using WARM water, not boiling water.

Mixing ratio: 1 part powder to 3 parts WARM water by weight.

Example: 15g powder + 45g warm water. Stir until smooth with a yoghurt-like consistency.

Step-by-Step Application Guide

If you're applying beard dye on its own, skip the first two optional Colour Base steps and begin at Step 3.

Optional Colour Base

Step 1 — Prepare the Colour Base

In a clean non-metal bowl, mix 1 part Natural Beard Dye Colour Base with 3 parts WARM water. Stir until smooth.

Optional Colour Base

Step 2 — Apply the Colour Base

Brush the paste evenly through your beard from roots to ends. Leave for 20–30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with warm water only and gently towel-dry.

Step 3 — Prepare Your Beard Dye

In a clean non-metal bowl, mix 1 part beard dye powder with 3 parts WARM water. Stir until smooth. Thick or long beards may require additional paste.

Step 4 — Apply Your Beard Dye

Apply evenly from roots to ends, ensuring all beard hair is coated. Leave for 15–30 minutes, following the application time supplied with your chosen product.

Step 5 — Rinse and Pat Dry

Rinse thoroughly with warm water only. Remove all visible residue, then gently pat dry with a clean towel. Colour may continue developing over 24–48 hours.

Aftercare

  • Do not shampoo your beard for 24 hours.
  • Avoid applying beard oils for 36 hours.
  • Allow up to 48 hours for the colour to develop before assessing your final shade.

Application Tips

  • Colour Base is optional. Our beard dyes can be used on their own.
  • We particularly recommend considering Colour Base for coarse, resistant or predominantly grey or white beard hair.
  • When using Colour Base, apply and rinse it before your beard dye. Do not mix the two powders together.
  • Resistant grey or white beard hair may need additional applications. Always follow the product instructions and patch-testing requirements.
  • Choose a shade close to your natural, non-grey beard colour for a more natural-looking result.
